Conceived and designed by Hong Kong–based artist Simon Birch, The 14th Factory draws its name from Guangzhou’s historic Thirteen Factories district, an 18th- and 19th-century trading quarter. Recognized as one of North America’s largest art installations, the exhibition gained international attention for its striking recreation of the final scene from 2001: A Space Odyssey. Originally fabricated by Scenic Industries, Mainstay Fabrication collaborated with Birch on the complete on-site installation.
